The 3 Best Decisions I Made in My 4 Years at College

My four years at Towson University were some of the best times of my life. I enjoyed every minute of it. However, there were some major decisions that I made that made my experience particularly memorable.

The tie between all three choices was that they were outside of my comfort zone, challenged me to push myself past my limits, and helped me to not only realize my passions, but also to pursue them.

Three of the greatest people I met in the Honors College - Bryan Goodyear, Anne Rubin, and Reema Riaz.

1. Applying to the Honors College

I can remember sitting at my computer as a high school senior heavily debating whether or not I was "Honors College" material. Sure, I excelled in high school, but  this was college. After hours of deliberating I finally finished my essay and sent in my Honors College application. Weeks later, I was astonished to find out I was accepted.

Now, I can't stress enough how that decision made my college career so memorable. I met most of my best friends through the honors college, had unbelievable professors, and was given incredible opportunities that I otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to pursue.

2. Auditioning for Private Voice Study

When I graduated high school, I not only left behind my hometown, but I also lost sight of one of my biggest passions - performing. For the first two years at Towson I let my school work get the best of me. However, my junior year I built up the courage to audition for private vocal study--something that, once again, I didn't think I was nearly qualified enough for.

However, I was accepted and paired up with one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had. She saw my potential, fostered my talent, and pushed me to become the best I could be. In the end, I performed an entire recital on my own and rekindled a fire that had been burnt out for far too long.

3. Taking Towson's BodyPump Class

Within the first two weeks of attending Towson, myself and two of my now best friends decided to take a group fitness class--Les Mills BodyPump to be exact. We barely could make it through the class and ended up laying on the floor from exhaustion unable to finish the ab portion. Yet, the challenge intrigued me and I continued to go back nearly every week.

After an entire year, the instructor noticed my determinism and suggested I become an instructor myself. A few weeks later, I became NETA certified and began teaching my own classes the following semester. As a result, I again brushed off some dust from an activity that I once loved.
